MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK

Module 1 -  Overview

  • Understand the beauty industry and how capitalism impacts attitudes and body confidence.  

  • Examine body confidence myths

  • The importance of taking ownership of your body

  • How to make informed beauty choices

 

Module 2 - Science focus

  • Develop self-care and body confidence regimes

  • Engage in cosmetic science

    • The science of skincare - What makes bath bombs work?

    • The science of makeup - What makes the "ick" in lipstick?

    • The science of shampoo - What makes shampoo lather?

    • Recognizing and identifying harmful ingredients in cosmetics

  • DIY Skincare and makeup activities

  • Testing and evaluating products

  • Fake food and nutrition

Module 3 - Technology focus

  • Explore fashion wearable technology

  • Robotics in beauty

  • Algorithms and why you need to understand them

 

Module 4 - Career focus

  • Career exploration. Meet girls and women in STEM.  Hear their stories and engage in activities in STEM fields.

  • Write a primer on the importance of body confidence in STEM

 

Bonus Module - Optional Activities

  • Weekend service project

  • America's Top Model themed Photoshoot

  • Trip to NYC Fashion Week - Sept 2019

  • Become a panelist to speak on body confidence & STEM

 

 

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

The high school track is the same as middle school except for module two.

 

Module 2 - Science focus

    • The truth about cosmetic surgery

    • The science of coloring hair - What does hydrogen peroxide do to your hair?

    • The science of nails enhancements - What is the difference between shellac and gel nails?

Alicia D. has a masters degree in educational leadership.  She is an educator and entrepreneur.  

Alicia D. has raised 8 girls and has worked with women and

girls for the last 20 years.   

She loves to speak and

travels to promote  the #mgBodyConfidence Movement through panel discussions and programs like TAKE UP SPACE.

 

Courage Molina

is an educator, author, and has an award-winning podcast.  

She also writes curriculum and serves as a consultant.  Courage  has an extensive background working with teen and college age girls.  She is the founder of StruggleXchange, a non-profit to support students through life challenges.  She is down to earth and loved by students and parents alike.

STEM

Science & technology faculty and others in the STEM field.  Visiting speakers will also offer their expertise.

Our program can be found in elementary, middle and high schools across Charlotte and surrounding cities.  

Each school has

one meeting per week.
